OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKING CANINE ASSOCIATION OF CANADA
of The Working Canine Association of Canada
as excerpted from our By-Laws.
4.1 The principal objectives of the Association shall be as follows:(1) The development, preservation, protection, improvement and general welfare of useful or working dog breeds throughout Canada.
(2) The maintenance of advanced, credible and reputable animal pedigree and registry facilities for the breed(s) in respect of which this Association was or may in future be deemed to have been incorporated, in accordance with principles of population genetics, in conformity to the requirements of the Animal Pedigree Act, and of such a high standard as to meet the requirements of Association members and to encourage and facilitate the preservation and improvement of such breed(s).
(3) To encourage and facilitate the breeding, training, use and keeping of working dogs in a responsible, humane, and ecologically positive manner, having due regard to the welfare of the animals and to the furtherance of the human/animal bond, to endeavour to raise and enhance the appreciation and valuation of the individual dog in society, and to oppose the devaluation, overproduction, exploitation and slaughter of working dogs.
(4) Promotion of utility working dog trials, events, and classes (other than "dog shows," which as commonly understood and practised, i.e., the evaluation of dogs on a competitive basis according to non-utilitarian criteria such as beauty, showmanship and conformation, are hereby declared alien to the purposes of this Association).
(5) Development and publication of educational material for the assistance of fanciers of working dog breeds in the breeding, training, production, keeping and sale of balanced, useful, versatile, genetically healthy animals.
(6) Advocacy and support of the cause of working dogs and their breeders at any and all levels of government in Canada, within Canadian society at large, internationally, and in any and all news and information media including worldwide computer networks.
(7) Support, recognition and encouragement of international associations whose objectives are congruent with those of this Association, and particularly of compatible international registry organisations for the breed(s) in respect of which this Association was or may in future be deemed to have been incorporated.
